We have some “new” Stevenson Ridge history on display in the Lodge. I say “new” because it’s history, which by definition makes it old–but the displays themselves are new.
The first is a frame containing some images of Brig. Gen. Thomas Greely Stevenson, for whom the property is named. There’s a brief bio accompanying the images so that visitors can learn at least a little bit about him. (More info on Stevenson is available in our book Traces of the Bloody Struggle: The Civil War At Stevenson Ridge, Spotsylvania Court House).
The second display shows a couple wartime images of the property that is now Stevenson Ridge. Captions for each are included in the display.
The new displays join a framed front page of the New York Times from May 17, 1864, showing the news of the day in Metropolis while the battle of Spotsylvania Court House was still underway here in Virginia.
Our Civil War history displays hang on the wall in the basement of the Lodge near our lounge area.
