Facebook picks the strangest things to get excited about, and few of those things are quirkier than bacon. Hardly a week goes by without some meme floating through my feed (usually several times) about the general awesomeness of bacon. I have even seen it suggested that we all need to âeat bacon or the terrorists win.â
Even my son is in on the act. âDoctors warn that bacon can cause heart attacks,â he explained, repeating a favorite meme of his. âTherefore, I plan to eat all the bacon I can in order to save other people from getting heart attacks.â And, after giving me just a second to let that sink in, he underscores his act of selflessness: âNot all heroes wear capes.â
Among my guy friends, bacon seems to be an especially important litmus for manhood: âReal men eat bacon,â the rationale goes. One of my friends, as it happens, does not like bacon, and the general assumption among the rest of our friends is that something is wrong with him. And heâs un-American.
So imagine my surprise when the following Thanksgiving suggestion popped up on my Facebook feed the other day:
âWonder of richest,â one friend responded when I reposted the picture.
I couldnât find a recipe for bacon-wrapped turkey–the nearest I came was this Pinterest page, which I couldn’t look at too long without jeopardizing my Man Card (whether I was looking at bacon or not). However, I suspect Real Men donât need a recipe for something like this. Get a turkey. Get some bacon. Wrap the turkey in the bacon. Cook. What more do you need, really?
