A couple years back, I was drawing a blank on what to get my mom for her birthday (end of January). This woman has everything is she needs right now, so what do I get her that sheâll enjoy?
Well, if youâve ever met my mom, the #1 thing is she LOVES chocolate. And she is Hungarian, so wine is definitely another of her favorites. So, I thought, why not find something that had to do with both wine and chocolate?
I first tried to look at Landsdowne Resort because she did a chocolate mud bath there once for a girls weekend, but itâs a little out my price range. Then I came across Potomac Point Winery, which is hosting a dessert and wine pairing around Valentineâs Day. This was perfect because my mom gets to have both her favorite things AND a romantic evening with my dad! I made their reservations, and theyâve been going every year since.
So, if youâre like my mom, or just want a nice evening out, I highly recommend checking out Potomac Point Wineryâs Sinfully Sweet event on February 13th-14. Reservations must be made in advance because they have specific times for the tastings. Enjoy the ambiance of their wine cellar with decadent desserts paired perfectly with their own wines. Tickets are $36 per person.
Here is their menu for this yearâs event.
Sweet Potato Beignets
Moscato Caramel, Spiced Pear Cream, Brown Butter Glaze
Paired with Moscato
Tahitian Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta
Blood orange, pistachio, ginger, mint
Paired with La Belle Vie White
Manchego Cheese Cake
Graham cracker, compressed apple, Marcona almond, Lavender honey
Paired with Vino Camino
Chocolate Pot De Crème
Raspberry, Hazelnut, Port, Cocoa Nibs
Paired with Rabelos Port (My parents favorite wine from Potomac Point!)
